Self-Education as a Lifestyle
Self-education is reading, writing, thinking and exploring your life for your own motives which could be something like:
1.) A desire to live a fun, great, hedonistic-noble lifestyle.
2.) A driving need to constantly purge your natural energy.
3.) A driving force to change the world in a big way with a big idea.
Some self-educated people don't have big ideas and big aspirations but they quietly try to improve the world in their own little ways.
It's a fun way to live. Being inspired all the time is the best way to live for the few people who figure out that this is the best life possible. I wrote a book about it called A Free Spirit's Search For Enlightenment.
Education doesn't end after formal schooling nor is it necessarily concerned with work-related upgrading. People continue to learn for many reasons among them the search for enlightenment, recreation, fun, practical matters and even go to classes to hope to meet a lover.
For men, the most common courses are home improvement, home building, computer and business related. For women, it's generally cooking and crafts.
Adult/ Continuing education refers to people who graduated from high school or college, went to work for awhile and are now seeking to further educate themselves or retrain for a different field.
There are several areas in any town that usually offer short courses to adults usually for a low, nominal fee. The first place is the local schoolboard which usually sponsors a continuing/ adult education program where they use the local schools at night-time to offer a wide variety of courses.
The teachers are anybody who knows something about the subject matter. They often get paid a wage from the fees collected. Some classes are even free. They usually run one night a week for about 10-13 weeks or could continue throughout the school year. There could be weekend courses.
Other places which offer courses are churches, nonprofit organizations, social clubs, the YMCA and even some stores sponsor courses like a camping store offering a camping course or a crafts store offering sewing classes.
Sometimes the library offers courses. Start with your local schoolboard and proceed from there. Look through your local phonebook for leads.
Check the free publications that are usually around the front of any library. If the city or state has some kind of booklet printed up every semester outlining the different courses available around town, it's here.
